JOHN D.'S EX-PREACHER WON'T
STAND FOR BILLY SUNDAY
. San Francisco, Aug. 6. Repudiat
ing Billy Sunday's religion, the Rev.
Charles S. Aked, former Rockefeller
pastor in New York, resigned as
member and vice-president of the
committee which instigated Sunday's
six-day revival, closed here last night
"I must be free to say," declared
Rkv. .Aked in' his letter of resigna
tion, "that there is no such God as
Sunday pretends, no such Christ, no
such heaven and no such hell. I can
not compromise my position as a
minister of Christ"
Aked's statement stirred the other
ninety-nine members of the commit
tee, leading among whom is Bishop
Hughes of the Methodist church.
Sunday went to Los Angeles today.
TODAY'S ODDEST STORY
Detroit, Aug. 6. Here's the latest
During a "war scare" in this coun
try certain officers of Michigan na
tional guard were ordered to locate
emergency supplies. One called on
Ford and asked if he could supply
the chassis for a large number of am
bulances. "Yes," Foxd replied, "if you don't
want too mihy. I could supply 1,000
a day. But we would have to be
given due notice of your needs."
"How much time would you
want?" queried the officer, bracing
himself for a demand of several
"Well," Ford replied thoughtfully,
"you ought to let us know not later
than 4 o'clock of the day before de
liveries were to start"
DIES TO ESCAPE DOCTORS NOW
THEY'LL GET HIM
Philadelphia, Pa., Aug. 6. There is
deal of irony in death ot William Gut
miller. He committed suicide yester
day because he was haunted by fear
that doctors were after his body for
dissection, they having learned that
his heart was on the right side and
other of his organs transposed.
Gutmiller died penniless and with
out a known relative. Unless some
one claims his body for burial it will
be turned over to state anatomical
board and will be given to a medical
college for instruction purposes
which means the dissection he had
