LIQUOR MEN'S ASS'N FAVORS
TAX ON LAND VALUES
The Chicago Liquor Dealers' Pro
tective ass'n favors a tax on land
values.
In a letter addressed to members
of congress the association says that
the increased tax on the liquor traffic
does not fall on the wealthy owners
of great breweries, distilleries and
vineyards, but are shifted to should
ers of the small retail liquor dealers
.and can't be passed by them to the
ansumer.
they invite the attention of
igress to the land tax and says:
cannot conceive of a fairer
lod to all classes than a tax on
land values" and ask congress to in
vestigate it They say such a tax
will be opposed by all wealthy para
sites, land-holding corporations and
land speculators.
In conclusion, they suggest that it
would be a welcome opportunity for
all true patriots in prohibition states
to share with retail liquor dealers in
wet states "the privilege of contrib
uting their just quota to the revenue
of our glorious country."
The letter is signed by Kennis
Brannock, secretary, and John W.
Maskell, president
