often these "shades of night" are
lightened by touches of gay color in
the way of corsage, a girdle or shoul
der straps of ribbon.
This note of color is -peryeffectively
introduced in the little black gown I
have sketched here a design of
Mme, Marguerite's which is to be
shown this fall at the Fashion Art
League of America fashion show. The
high girdle is peach color taffeta,
with a metal rose used as a corsage,
and wide velvet ribbon of corn flower
blue crossing the right shoulder and
looping into the girdle at the back.

The gown itself is of black-Llammel
lace and the paniers are of black tulle.

Brooklyn, N. Y., by way of a service
to the people, looks over the city's (
waste to recover articles that have
been thrown away unintentionally.
Things found last year ranged from a A
$500 roll of bills and a solid gold
watch in an old vest pocket to two
healthy specimens of the' rubber
plant. Bundles of laundry' are the
most frequent item.
