Whenever anyone speaks of beauty
articles, everyone immediately thinks
of the complexion. A man who want
ed to be clever once said to me that
most of the pretty women he had met
thought more about their complex
ions than of their immortal souls.
I agreed with him but did not tell
him that a woman soon learns that
the only man who takes great inter
est in her immortal soul is her clergy
manand that most men she meets
seem vitally interested in her com
plexion. There is as much powder for the
skin sold as salt for the palate and
half as much creams and other lo
tions as butter.
All the people who sell complexion
"dope" have gotten rich and you can
also say this for them; they have
added to the sum of woman's beauty.
And yet a good complexion is an
easy thing to acquire. First you must
be like "the 'king's daughter" men
tioned in holy writ, "clean without
No one man or woman pan have a
gpod complexion who does not take
a warm or hot bath daily.
Lillian Russell, whose complexion
is the wonder of the modern age, al
ways takes her bath very hot, and I
have found that hot water agrees
with me also.
One cannot give general directions
for the use of baths or cosmetics. I

then put on whatever make-up suits
