Children who have been given de
structive toys in the cradle, and who
when they walk abroad see monu
ments to soldiers and hear warriors
praised in school, naturally think it
more glorious to take life rather than
to conserve it
Ergo, we have fallen from the
meights of civilization to the depths
of barbarians through a well-nigh
universal war.
And the warlike toys of babes, with
their character-shaping influence,
have not been the least blameworthy
cause in helping bring on this great
horror!
Upon the mothers of the present
generation depend the heights of civ
ilization to which their children shall
mount.
Let us begin at once by banishing
from the nursery all toys that tend to
influence the child's mind toward
destructiveness.
