Here's the man who paid $15,000,
000 for 240,000 shares of the Cam
bria Steel Co. and who entered the
employ of that concern 27 years ago
in the capacity of water boy at $5 a
week. He was the son of well-to-do
parents when the great Johnstown
flood swept the city in which he
lived. Two of his immediate rela
tives lost their lives and all their
property was destroyed.

Tennessee coffin factories are be
ing: prosecuted for "misbranding the
contents of their coffins, it being
charged that they have been shipping
whisky in them.
FORD TO SEE PRESIDENT AND
CARDINAL ABOUT PEACE
New York, Nov. 26. Henry Ford
left New York today hoping to win
before night approval of both Fres.
Wilson and Cardinal Gibbons for
peace ship that is to sail for Europe
December 4.
Ford will talk over his plans with
Cardinal Gibbons at Baltimore. He
will urge Cardinal to lend his influ
ence to Christmas peace mission by
accompanying voyagers to Europe.
If the Cardinal finds that impossible,
Ford will ask that he, as head of the
Catholic church in America, give to
the world some indication of approval
that will enlist for the peace move
ment the energetic support of Cath
olics in neutral countries.
From Baltimore Ford will go "to
Washington where he will accom
pany Mrs. Philip Snowden, wife of a
member of the English parliament,
and Mrs. Rosika Schwimmer, Hun
garian peace advocate, to the White
House.
Mrs. Snowden and Mme. Schwim
mer will present to the president re
solutions adopted by the women's
peace congress at The Hague. They
will urge upon the president that he
issue a call at once for a conference
of neutral nations with a view to end
ing the world war.
Though peace ship, Oscar II., is
scheduled to sail one week from to
morrow many important details of
trip are yet to be arranged. Ford has
given out list of 10 prominent per
sons who have accepted invitations
to make voyage. Liner will touch at
Christiania, Copenhagen and Stock
holm, he announced.. Peace confer
ence probably will be held in Holland.

A contract for $26,000,000 worth of
rifles for the Russian army has been
closed in Cleveland, according to re
ports, which would indicate that the
Slavs contemplate putting Bome
2,000,000 more soldiers in the field
before they are ready to listen to
any peace palaver.
