Explanation of the source of the
rumor that Civil Service Commission
er Joe Geary was going to resign to
become free lance captain in the po
lice department was forthcoming
Chief Healey has issued captain
stars to Commissioners Geary and
Coffin. Someone evidently saw
Geary's and the rumor started.
It's rather unusual to hand out cap
tain stars promiscuously, so the chief
was asked about it He said he
thought his action perfectly proper.
