Some studios have tryout days.' You apply to the employing director and tell him your ambitions. He tells you to come back on Monday, if that happens to be tryout day. You come back. You are summoned, all trembly and nervous, before another director and he decides at a glance whether you are worth giving a cam era test If you are7 lucky you are asked to return the next day to face the camera. The next day you find many other girls also waiting for the tryout. You line up before the camera and the di rector says something like this: "A rich uncle has returned from ceived a- good, salary. There ar6 scores of others., (Jo Be .Continued.) Miss Juanita Hansen MM'-?&? I its BMftf $M I Irtl I " MrJr Alaska. Your baby brother may now; have an operation to cure his spine. Your mother can stop washing for a living. Register great joy before the camera." You have to express joy, sorrow, fear, grief and sundry emotions as best you can. -while the camera is busy clicking away in front of you. It's rather trying, that first day. The director tells you to come back in a few days. While you are waiting he has the negative devel oped and decides wherther he can use you or not. When you return you are either given your chance or told quite politely but positively that you won't do for the movies. Girls just out of high school have a good chance to break in, if they are pretty, but other girls of peculiar type are frequently chosen for char acter parts.
