K15.JUJJL4J THE PUBLIC FORUM UNSIGNED. "Here is something you will likely not publish" read a let ter received by The Day Book. Per haps allegations in the letter against two former assistants to" corporation counsel are true, butthe writer who said, "here is something you likely will not publish," did not have suffi cient good faith to sign his name and address, so we could get in touch with him in order to get more definite facts on what appears to be a good news story of an attempt to pervert justice. Forum Editor. THERE IS A MORAL LAW! It looks hopeless to say anything about nonresistance while so much of the world is fighting and the rest of it crazy to get ready to fight But exhaustion will cure the craze later. It is discouraging to preach anything outside the current channels of thought unless it can be commercial ized and connected with material properity. The philosophy of evolution is a frantic effort to get rid of an intel ligent Creator and account for the existence of things by an automatic mechanical system which is more in comprehensible than the dark the ologies of the past It is satisfactory to some minds to think that is the way to escape from moral responsi bility. But all the time the prog ress of humanity demonstrates the fact of a moral law, which will be come clearer and clearer as history is made. Nonresistance is but a thought that is derided by the unthinking. It is a thought, however, that controls the majority of mankind who unwit tingly obey it But for the lives and actions of those who do not resist, but serve because the law of life is service, mankind would have be come extinct in their efforts to civ ilize themselves by force. The present war in Europe demon- strates clearly the fallacy of the force 1 system of trying to live. It shows that the only result of force against force is death. Force begets force and the strongest force, when it seems to have won a victory and crushed all opposition, is in the process of perishing of its own pu trid corruption. The history of the world as far back as we have any history shows the absolute truth of this statement It is absolutely true "that the meek shall inherit the earth." Militarism will destroy itself in time and peace will become the rule everywhere. Ceo. V. Wells. UTILIZING THE TAX. Income tax constitutional! Best news from that fossilized institute of obsolete precedent and customs I have heard in many a moon. Now I would-sug-gest a law graduating income rates from 1 per cent for $5,000 to 50 per cent for $1,000,000. Let them pay the tax who are most capable of bearing the burden. What are we going to do with that heap of money thus accumulated? Army? Navy? Ambassadorial pal aces? Nonsense! Improve our natural resources. Construct public buildings and public works which have been waiting years for an appropriation. Extend loans to the small farmer and rural grange societies. Endow public institutions such as clinics, laboratories, research stations and hospitals. Employ experts with sufficient sal ary inducements so that they can devote their entire time to the discov ery of scientific truths and methods of their application, thus alleviating misery and disease and making life the more worth while. Establish labor exchanges in every city in the country under direct con trol of the federal gov't, and make these the sole means of bringing the employer and employes together, sav ing in this way much of the bitterness and heart pangs that come to him or her who must trudge from shop to ittlaititftiflaMttaiiMft
