Charley Hall is to make his third
trip to the majors after being in the
game 12 years. He will be with the
St Louis Cardinals, who gave St
Paul of the American association,
three players for him.
Hall started with Seattle in 1904.
He was with Cincinnati, sent to Co
lumbus, went to the Boston Red Sox,
with whom he spent five seasons,
jbeu to St Paul, in the A, A, last
season hall won 24 games and lost 10.
He won 16 straight, and was touted
as better than any of the 'youngsters
in the league.
"Strangler" Lewis, college boy
wrestler, is the logical man to give
a real test to Joe Stecher, the young
ster who came from a Nebraska farm
with a remarkable Idg scissors hold,
won one bout after another, claims
the American championship and is
seeking a match with Frank Gotch
for the world's title.
Lewis has gone through the big in
ternational tournament at New York
with a clean record in the catch-as-catch-can
game. His most notable
triumphs were over Mort Henderson,
who was a sensation as The Masked
Marvel, Wladek Zbyszko and Doc
Stecher has appeared in only one
match in the tournament He beat
the Marvel. That entitles him to
meet Zbyszko and Lewis.
The "Strangler" is the only man
who has ever given Stecher a real
tussle since the Nebraskan became a
National figure. They wrestled two
hours and five minutes to a draw.
Lewis is different from most wres
tlers. He is smart He attended
Kentucky State university, then con
tinued his education by reading high
class literature in spare time, espe
cially on trains while going from one
city to another between matches.
He is a student of physchology and
says he expects to "think himself to
the championship." He says that
many times, through mind control,
he is able to make opponents do al
most as he wants them to.
In college Lewis was a star in ath
letics on account of his strength. He
was physical instructor at Kentucky
state before he became a professional,
The "Strangler's" right name is
Robert Friedrich. He was called
"Strangler" after "Strangler" Evan
Lewis, who won fame on the matbe
