DASHED TO EARTH IN ZEPPELIN WRECK
RECOVERS AND GOES ON CONCERT STAGE
In Bremen at the start of the war, she was invited by an army officer;
to ascend in the dirigible Malkussen. The dirigible caught fire and fell,
demolishing a house, killing one officer and injuring several officers and
guests. Miss Hale, a descendant of the Nathan Hale family, 'sustained
internal injuries, but has recovered and returned to the concert stage.
Policewomen are now employed in
26 cities. Chicago has 21; Baltimore,
Los Angeles and Seattle, 5 each;
Pittsburgh, 4; San Francisco, Port
land, Ore., and St Paul, 3 each; and
Dayton, O., Topeka, Kas., and Min
neapolis, Minn., 2 each. Fifteen oth
er cities have one each. . A .
Just now it looks as if there would
be no steel vessels employed in the
Newfoundland sea fiishery next
spring. Five such vessels were re
cently sold to the Russian govern
ment, and it is said that others will
soon be purchased forthe transpoxta
