Bad luck attaches to persons as it
does to things and places. If you are
sure a person brings you bad luck,
keep away from him. - LJkeep a luck
book and when I make a new ac
quaintance I write down the name
and date. I note the good and bad
things that happen. If I find the bad
luck greater than the good through
new acquaintance, I drop it.
I do not believe that to pass under
a ladder or raise an umbrella in the
house is bad luck. Those things, to
my mind, are incapable of influenc
ing your future. But, there are some
things I know absolutely do have an
influence for good or bad.
Here is an emerald ring given to me
by a blind sheik, celebrated for his
learning and wisdom. Cut into the
emerald are a camel and a dog. The
sheik told me the ring had come down
to him for generations and was more
than 2,000 years old.
He gave it to me because he was
the last of his family and made me
promise that should any male child
be born to me, I was to hang the ring
about the neck of the child and teach
him to pray for him and to read Ara
bic. The old sheik was then more than
110 years of age. One of his ances
tors lived, he said, to be 143. I was
told that, by keeping the ring, I would
live long and that by praying to it on
the fewest days of the Koran I would
get what I asked for. Have I ever
tried? Yes, and I have always gotten
what I prayed for!
Here is a small crystal globe on
which are engraved a bear and a
bunch of dates. This, too, is a gift.
I wear it suspended about my neck,
waking and sleeping. It protects me
from accidents. How do I know?
Well, I have never had an accident'
Certainly I believe the futjire may
be foretold from the cards. I read
the cards every morning and night.
They foretold my success with Wil
liam Fox. Every important happen
ing in my life has been predicted by
the cards.
A maltese coral I keep to ward off
attacks by animals particularly
dogs. All stones have the faculty of
transmitting bad luck as well as good
luck.
A golden hand I wear to ward off
the evil eye. I have had it since I
was a child in Italy.
A sailor gave me a shark's tooth to
protect me from the dangers of the
sea. My little golden Inca god was
given me by a Mexican, who promis
ed that it would always protect me
against fire and flood.
I do not think I am more super
stitious than lots of other persons.
There are a lot of other things I be
lieve it, but it would take too long
to tell all of them.
Tomorrow I will tell you about
some something even more fascinat
ing than my charms my clothes that
express temperament!
KEEP A LUCK BOOK, GIRLS!"
SAYS TH EDA
"I think every girl would find it
interesting to have a luck book
such as I have," says Theda
Bar a, who tells about her luck
book in this article. In the book
she keeps tab of acquaintances
and notes if good or bad luck fol-
lows each acquaintance.
"I read over my little book
very often and it gives me great
pleasure, besides showing me
which acquaintances to keep up f
and which ones to drop."
