Col. Bryan is wasting a lot of coin
traveling all the way to Washington
to save our citizens.
There is plenty of work for him
right here, helping to save the White
Sox. And he'd earn more gratitude.
Charley Weeghman is running into
the same brand of hard luck that
1 trailed him last year, when eight
I Sunday games of the local season of
I the Federal league were washed out
by rain, seriously cutting into the
' proceeds of the club.
Cold weather and a slight sprinkle
erased yesterday's combat, and it is
too cold today for any section of the
fan army to trek out to the ball or
chard. "Murphy's luck" used to be pro
verbial when Charles Webb was at
the head of the local National league
club. Since he removed himself from
active direction luck has deserted the
Cubs and is roosting on the banner
of Charley Comiskey and the White

game of their home series postponed
and conditions were good every aft

Comiskey is a great believer in
playing a game anyhow, no matter
what weather conditions are. Noth
ing short of a heavy rain, snow, or
hail puts a quietus on South Side
combatting.
The off-day gave Manager Tinker
time to do a little executive work
and make a few important an
nouncements. He has sent Charley
Pechous, local amateur, to Peoria of
the Three-Eye league under an op
tional agreement, and also has Fluh
rer, Ad Brennan and Catcher O'Far
rell back on his hands. All were
sent to minor clubs, but have been
returned because they didn't make
good. Brennan may stay with the
team, as he has an iron-clad con
tract, but the other two will be dis
posed of.
Joe also stated positively that he
would keep Eddie Mulligan at short
if he kicked every grounder that
came to him. Mully had a bad day
in the opener and many fans thought
Tinker would displace him. But Jpe
has seen Mully in more than one
game and has faith in his ability to
make good in the big show.
Tinker is certainly giving Mulligan
every chance and if the youngster
has good baseball in him he will have
every opportunity to produce. Tinker
figures that it would sap the lad's
confidence if he was lifted at the
