WORK ON ORGANIZATION TO
FIGHT LOEB RULE
With a membership of 4,000 prac
tically assured, definite steps will
be taken this week toward the for
mation of a public school league of
citizens which will be used as a
weapon against attempts of Jake
Loeb to throw the school system to
the mercy of spoils politicians.
The suggestion of such a league at
the mass meeting of protest against
the Loeb rule, held at the Auditorium
Saturday, was greeted with applause
by the audience which packed the
Educators and civic leaders, in ad
dition to parents, will compose the
membership of the league. Their
purpose is the protection of the
school children against the ambitions
At yesterday's meeting of the Chi
cago Federation of Labor the action
of Jake Loeb and his crew of ten
supporters on the school board came
in for denunciation. Mrs. Florence
Vosbrink and E. J. Kreutgen were
particular targets. '""Kreutgen is the
man who tried to pat labor on the
back when he was seeking to grab
off tie postmaster job.
"From now on while we are en
deavoring to drag down the black
flag of the political spoils system
raised by Lofcb against the teachers,"
said Victor Olander, "we must not
forget to condemn the ten others
who aided him in that despicable
treatment of the school children."
"While hiding behind the claim
that they are trying to take the
school system out of politics," said
Christian Madsen, "they are doing
what they can to force the schools
The Electrical Workers, No. 134,
presented a letter which had been
sent the mayor, the school board and
other inteersted persons urging the
rescinding of the Loeb rule.
John Fitzpatrick accused Loeb and
his crew of ten of taking orders from
the office of Roy 0. West.
