SAYS CAS CO. MAN KNOCKED
HER DOWN SUES
Peoples' Gas Light and Coke Co.
has been made defendant in a suit
for $5,000 by a Woman of 65 who
says she was knocked down in her
own home by a gas collector.
Mrs. Anna Cockrell, the woman
who is suing, says that a month ago
a gas collector called at her home,
2227 Ogden av., to collect an overdue
bill.
She says she told the collector to
wait a few minutes, that her daugh
ter was just returning from the cor
ner grocery and would have the mo
ney for him. She says he refused
and in his haste and determination
to turn off the gas he knocked her
down, severely bruising and shock
ing her.

INSURANCE CO.'S BOOST RATES
TO U. S. MILITIAMEN
New York, June 21. Militiamen
who see active service at the front
will have to pay more for their life
insurance, according to decisions of
several big insurance companies, an
nounced today.
. Metropolitan, Equitable and Pru
dential companies will hereafter not
accept policies of more than $2,000
from militiamen answering the call
to the colors, with special added pre
mium of $30 a year if the militiamen
are ordered across Mexican border.

HAS BEEN ASSESSED "
New York, June 21. For first
time in years John D. Rockefeller
yesterday protested against his as
sessment in Mt Pleasant township.
It was "grievance day," and through
his secretary, Wm. S. Mitchell, he
asked reduction on following proper
ty: House and 17,581 acres, assessed
$875,000; 796 acres, assessed $350.
000; 19 acres, assessed $9,900; 153
acres, assessed $18,700; 202 acres,
assessed $55,000; other property, as
sessed $15,700.
k Mr. Rockefeller did not specify the
amount of reduction desired, but it
is understood he wants his assess
ment reduced to last year's figures,
which are $375,000 less than this
year's. The board set August 10 as
the date to hear Mr. Rockefeller.
Wm. Rockefeller's assessment was
increased $50,000, but he made no
protest.

word is explanation enough.
The common expression is: "He's

CYCLONE HITS TOWN
Bloomington, Ind., June 21.
Southwestern part of Monroe county
was struck by small cylone early to
day. Property damage would reach,
several thousand dollars.
