TINY FUTURE PAVLOWAS PRANCE FOR HOURS
BEFORE MIRRORS AT SCHOOL
In the Metropolitan opera ballet
school in New York you can see tiny
little girls prancing, dancing on their
toes before shining mirrors, in which
every move of their muscular legs
is registered for their eyes.
This is part of the strenuous train
ing which candidates for the ballet
must undergo from early childhood.

At 5 years they don ballet slippers
with blunted toes and learn to dance
lightly and gracefully with their
pedal digits pointed at China.
With white half hose, bare legs and
flaring ballet skirts, they pirouette
for hours before the mirror. Such
is the rigorous training undergone
by New York's future Pavlowas.
