It is amusing to note how some people get it into their heads that only by following a certain determined course is one do ing any active work for the better ment of mankind. They do not take the trouble to understand that social conditions present such a vast se quence of phenomena that it is al most impossible to solve all problems through one .channel. It does not necessarily follow that because the Workers' Institute is do ing excellent work it is advisable to let Loeb go on unimpeded with his reactionary policies. If we would sit down and wait until the masses are prepared to organize and join radical schools we would do nothing but help the continuance of existing con ditions. The pen and tongue are the most potent factors in speeding the wheels. Does not a suggestion obtained through the medium of an article oft times spur people to action. Criti cism is a powerful weapon. Discus sion through the press or through public speaking and debating tends to awaken the masses to a knowl edge of their interest Free speech is of no -value if not exercised, but is of the highest so cial value if properly and conscien- v) tiously exercised. The original means provided by nature for the perpetuation of the species was by division. The animal would just split in two and there would be two animals; split again and we would have four, etc. If this animal did not meet with an accident and could find sufficient sustenance , it could keep on doing the split for ever and immortality would be solved. You would be "born again" every time you split No partner or children to bother, no alimony or big. bills to pay. Next nature evolved a double sexed animal. Every person was his or her own husband or wife. Just think of the time and money saved in courtship. But there were off- springs to provide for, which the ty) split system avoided. - Finally we got the one-sexed peri son and we are in a deplorable con dition. The question is what will be the next step. If double sex comes before single it looks as if we might return to the old split system. One difficulty would be to determine
