CATHERINE VANCE HARRISON
GETS FIVE-YEAR SENTENCE
Ft. Worth, Tex., June 29. A ver
dict of guilty was returned yesterday
against Katherine Vance Harrison,
child wife of Chas. Harrison, son of
Jas. Harrison, and nephew of U. S.
Sen. Culbertson, for the murder of
W. L. Warren, local hotel man, and
a sentence of five years in prison imposed.
The verdict came as a sweeping
surprise, for the sentiment had been
that the trial was! merely a form and
the girl would be set free at its close,
Katherine Vance Harrison, accom
panied by her boy husband, invited
Warren for an automobile ride last
January and some hours later his
body was found lying by the side of
a road some miles from here. The
case remained a mystery for several
weeks, then the girl confessed that
she had killed Warren because he
had lured her to his hotel and then
mistreated her.
Hearing on motion for a new trial
by the defense has been set for Sat
urday morning.

IN A NICE, SARCASTIC WAY HE
WILL TELL T. R. TO GO TO
Bridgeport, Conn., June 29. John:
Flood, delegate from Fairfield coun
ty to the Progressive national con
vention in Chicago, soon will ship
a large box to Theodore Roosevelt
at Oyster Bay, Long Island. It will
contain five badannas, emblems ot
the Bull Moose party; seven Roose
velt photographs, a dozen Roosevelt
campaign banners, a-large collection
of Roosevelt buttons and badges,
personal letters from the colonel to
John and a short but expressive let
ter from John to the colonel. "
The letter, in effect, will say that
Mr. Flood is "cured." Once a rabid
Roosevelt follower, Mr. Flood is mad
clear through" at the way in which
he and about 900 other delegates
were "jollied along for a week and
then dumped."
The letter will request that the
contents of the box be used for a
bonfire to drive away the mosquitos
at Oyster Bay.
"I'm for Wilson," said Flood to a
reporter 'today, "and so are hundreds
of delegates who sat inthe Progres
sive convention and saw the leader
whom we followed faithfully, almost
fanatically, step forth and try to
dump us."
