WOMEN CAN CORRECT DEFORMED FEET WITH
' SENSIBLE EXERCISES
The imprint of a deformed foot flat with arch broken down and
, toes deflected and pinched by pointed-toed shoes.
You can test your own feet, as to shape of toes and the condition of
the arch, by smearing the soles with lamp black lightly and then standing
carefully on a piece of white cardboard to receive the imprint. The impres
sion may be preserved by spraying it with a commercial fixatif or varnish.
The business of graduating its girl
students -with good feet is a serious
part of the University of Oregon's
curriculum. It has found by care
ful tests that the great majority of
women's feet are seriously deformed.
Exercise to improve them are com
pulsory. These exercises, carefully worked
out, should prove valuable to women
everywhere. Part of them were de
tailed in The Day Book yesterday.
Below is a supplementary list, to be
.taken in conjunction with the others,
upon the advice of the university
physical education department:
Sitting or Lying Down
Cautions: The foot should never
be turned outward beyond the
straight line. ,
The movement of the leg must not
be confused with that of the foot.
Each movement should be done
slowing and completely.
Spread toes apart 25 times.
Curl toes downward 25 times.
Stretch the foot downward, us
ing toes to aid in thfi movement.
