A common, everyday clothes bas
ket may be the means of saving baby
from the dangers of July.
Line it well, then put baby to sleep
in it out in a shady nook in the yard
if you have one, or on the roof, or on
a wired-in fire escape.
If there is no place else put baby
in a slightly darkened but well ven
tilated room. An expensive mattress
In the basket is not necessary.
When the baby is awake don't get
it in the habit of being held. In hot
weather baby should be taken into
its mother's arms only at feeding and
bathing time. Holding the baby or
fussing with it at other times only
makes it cross and irritable and a
baby in that condition is very liable
to summer sickness.
If baby cries it may only be un
comfortable and turning it over will
make it comfortable and able to drop
off to sleep again. -
The nursery or room in which baby
sleeps will be more healthful if rugs
are eliminated. With the floor bare
it can be kept clean by wiping it with
a damp cloth or dust mop.
There should be no heavy, dust
catching hangings or drapery or up
holstered furniture. If the walls are
painted they can be kept fresh and
sanitary by frequent washing.

the plaster on, also killing a dog, he
being afraid and lying behind the
stove. From Ithaca, N. Y., Journal.
