"A VENUS! "FAMOUS
GREEK NEVER WORE HIGH-HEELED SHOES"
By Emily lllingworth
The third of six articles, written
especially for The Day Book by the
famous dancer, hailed by public and
critics as the modern-day Venus and
the "Pavlbwa of America."
The Greek lady of the Venus statue
could never have batted 1.000 as a
beauty if she had worn French heels.
Look at your little plaster model
of the Venus de Milo or call up a
mental picture of that wonderful
figure, and ask yourself if the Greek
woman who posed 2300 years ago
for the statue ever wore hign heels.
Any one who would acquire a good
figure must consider the foundation,
During the day your feet are the
most active parts of your body, and
usually have the least thought and
time devoted to their comfort.
If most girls gave one-third the
time to their feet they do to their
faces, their whole appearance would
be greatly improved.
Present-day shoes, with high heels
and pointed toes, are unnatural cre
ations, harmful not only to the feet,
but to the health of the whole body.
If the Venus lady walked about in
such shoes as nine-tenths of the
women today wear, she could not
have retained her beautiful figure.
In a short time she would have
suffered froiri broken arches and
nervous troubles, and there would
have been a terrible slump not only
in the figure, but in the average of
this woman, who for 2300 years has
batted 1.000 as a beauty.

At least in the matter of shoes and

But I did give up high heels and
