CANTWELL ADMITS "JOY RIDE"
BUT DENIES GIRL'S CHARGE
A. S. Cantwell, insurance adjuster,
r.dmitted yesterday he- had taken
Florence Jacobsen for a "joy ride,"
but denied the girl's charge that he
had forced his attentions on her after
"stalling" his car on a lonely road
near the "House That Jack Built"
The girl repeated her charges in
Judge Rafferty's court yesterday, but
the case was continued until Aug. 28
because Cantwell failed to appear in
court. The latter said the. girl flirt-1
r ed with, him ,at Madison and Kedzia
and he invited her to' take a ride.
WILSON SAVES COUPLE FROM
i BEING DEPORTED
Mrs. Sarah Schimelson . and her
daughter, Esther, 16, will not be sent
back to war-torn Poland, the scene
of their greatest unhappiness. The
two were to be sent back because
they had no money when they landed
in New. York Aug. 5 and the govern
ment feared they would become
"public charges." But an hour be
fore the ship that was to take them
back sailed a telegram from Presi
dent Wilson came and they will be
allowed to remain in the new world.
Chicago friends of the family urged
Wilson to take such action. Mrs.
Schimelson's husband was shot to
death in Suwalk, Poland, shortly
after the war began, when Cossacks
discovered he had been selling bread
ROBERTSON HALTED IN FIGHT

The boats named by Robertson as
