The speaker was Florenz Ziegfeld,

RAISING A CHILD TO
BY MRS. GEORGE BECH,
Mother of Zoe Rae, Highest Paid and
Most Famous Child Player
in the Movies-
For a baby to start at the bottom
now and work up to stardom in the
motion picture world would be a
hard struggle unless the child were
especially fitted for the work.
Of course, there must always be
a demand for all classes of children
in the movies, but the child that gets
past the "atmosphere" stage play
ing "extra" parts or acting as a piece
of scenery must have both photo
graphic and stage ability.
My advice to mothers would be to
keep their children out of the cinema
realm, unless it has been recognized
that their children have talent and
unless they have the funds to finance

contend with, so many obstacles to
surmount now that I did not haveito
cope with "when Zoe first started,
that it would be unjust not to inform
parents regarding them.

started when the picture business
was in its infancy. She achieved
her nrst fame at the old Biograph
studio in New York in "one-reelers."
"An English scientist says three of
every five women are bow-legged,
and he's Might," added Mr. Ziegfeld,
who probably has seen more wom
en's" legs thanany other man.
It's a gigantic task to assemble
the half-hundred girls of a Follies
chorus, he says, because of the thou
sands that apply every year, seven
