WILSON TO DEMAND SHOWDOWN
Asbury Park, N. J., Oct. 2. Presi
dent Wilson is determined to "smoke
out" Charley Evans Hughes on what
the Democrats have now defined as
the real issues of the campaign.
When he starts west tomorrow
night to speak in Omaha Thursday
evening the president will have com
pleted his plans to force Hughes, if
possible, in a thorough discussion
of what changes will be made in the
foreign and business policies of the
government if there is a change of
administration March 4.
Wilson will continue to use the
taunting sarcasm employed in his ad
'dress to young Democrats Saturday,
challenging his Republican opponent
to divulge how far the policy of peace
of the present administration will be
followed in case of a Republican vic
tory. He will be in Chicago one and one
half hours Wednesday evening, but
will not leave his car, according to

GREEKS MASSACRED IN ASIA
MINOR BY TURKS
Rome, Oct. 2 Reports that
Greece is about to declare war on the
side of the allies has led to the whole
sale massacre of Greeks in Asia
Minor by the Turks, the Greek lega
tion was advised today.
Greek residents of the Syrna dis
trict have suffered greatly from per
secution and in outlying districts
many Greeks have been killed.
