WON'T NAME A SCHOOL
FOR DR. J. B. MURPHY
Because He Is a 'Catholic Protestant Organizations
Protest Dr. Clemensen Defends Dr. Murphy and
Splits With the Loeb Majority.
' In a speech suppressed by aH seven
of the big downtown daily papers Dr.
Clemensen said at the school board
meeting this week:
"Protestants and Catholics were
united in paying tribute to the skill
and the ability of Dr. Murphy as a
surgeon and a scientist. I jilid not
think any one could be so petty ana
small as 'to protest against giving his
name to that of a Chicago public
P "This is not a gueatIoi of reli-
gion. It is a question of whether
John B. Murphy was a great scientist,
surgeon and humanitarian. I know
from personal experience that he
was a great surgeon, that he was re-'
cognized as such the world over.
"I knew Dr. Murphy intimately for
15 years. , I heard him lecture and I
attended clinics where he officiated.
When I went to Europe and attended
clinics in Home, Berlin, Munich and
Vienna I .heard everywhere the state
ment that Dr. Murphy was one of the
I great men of Cbicago-and -an aid "to
