The law and the gospel have pos
tulated those products of their infer
nal impudence as the work of God,
whom they are to purify by he legal
process of picking their pockets of
court costs, legal fees, imprisonment
and killing and the sacerdotal
cleansing by hell fire.
This indictment is necessarily mild
and brief, because of my human lim
itations for a more comprehensive
and explicit and more concrete ex
position of those primordial psycho
logic abortions called the law and
gospel. I take great pleasure in re
ferring the reader of my infantile in
sufficiency as an exposition to the
words of our elder brother, as re
corded in St Mathew 3d. F. N. Al
bright, 2348 W. Harrison.
, THE WOMEN PICKETS. Are
some of the women who are work
ing for the national suffrage amend
ment using good judgment by pick
eting the white house or not?
They knew the president's views
on that amendment before the last
election; they did all they could to
defeat him, but failed. Do the wom
en who are picketing the white house
think they will be able to change Mr.
Wilson's views on the amendment
by standing out and freezing all day
long in this cold winter?
The tactics the leaders of the na
tional amendment forces are using
are a huge joke. They were used as
tools in the last national campaign
by leaders of one of the big political
parties. Now they are standing in
the cold all day, trying to get Wil
son's goat. Has the president any
goat to be gotten?
A women"s suffrage amendment
at this time would be a certain fail
ure. Instead of spending time and
money on picketing, some of the
women ought to give it for the use
of literature to advance their cause.
The women will get suffrage by
states much quicker than they
would by national suffrage amend
ments. They haven't the money to
finance a national campaign. Pub
lic opinion is against the women's
suffrage amendment everywhere.
They have a better chance in indi
vidual states than throughout the
nation. The women who are picket
ing will get a lot of fresh air
while on duty, and that will be about
all for some time to come. Aba
RELIGION AND THE SCHOOLS.
I see that the religious issue has
been brought up again in the school
board. Such questions as religion
or creed are vicious and can do noth
ing but work harm.
It makes no difference to a right
minded person what a teacher's reli
gion is as long as she or he is a
person that can fill the position
satisfactorily and get results. That
is the only thing that counts in this
world of ours.
We cannot be all of the same faith
and we should respect and tolerate
others as we expect to have others
respect us. This universe is a hard
place for narrowminded people to
get along in.
This wrangle on the, school board
can do lots of harm and can neyer
do any good.
Now let the Jews, Catholics and
Protestants get together for the
common good of the schools and
mankind and quit petty wrangling.
Respect other people's views and
work for the-common good. J. H.
