Victim of Elevator Accident Is Badly Mangled Death

Men Have Narrow Escape.

av., was instantly killed at 7:55 this
morning by a Marshall Field & Co.
elevator. Three other workmen who
were in the elevator pit where the ac
cident happened narrowly escaped.
The four men had been cleaning
pits of elevators which run only from
the first floor to the three basements
of the building. According to a
statement given a Day Book reporter
by David M. Yates, manager of the
store, all of these elevators had been
ordered to stand at the first floor un
til the men were out of the pits.
"A Mr. Weber is the foreman of
the elevator operators," said Yates.
