im uj i j mm wmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm a man, keep him away from military training. If you want a beast, give him plenty of it. D. M. Clark. WET FIGURES. I did not intend to mention individual states, but since Davis put Kansas up as the em blem of prohibition and speaks of in creased wages in dry territory, read this of July, 1916: Wage percentage increase, Kansas, in ten years, 63.0; Nevada (wet), 347.8. Increase in wages paid labor, Kan., 102 per cent"; S. D. (wet), 103 per cent. Increase in capital invest ed in twenty years' manufacturing, Kan., 162 per cent; Nev., 683.85 per cent Insane Kan., 172.2 per cent; S. D., 148 per cent. Pauperism, Kan., 735 per cent; S. D., 145 per cent Homes owned free in Kan., 64.8 per cent; S. D., 67.9 per cent Illinois, with more than four times the popu lation of Kansas, has 25 per cent less drugstores than dry Kansas per 100, 000. The liquor traffic was made a sore because fanatics irritated the skin of freedom. The evil after-effects of amputation do not always manifest themselves at once and it will re main a running sore if the prohibi tion party continues. I will go into the furniture busi ness if what Mark Twain said is true about prohibition. "No," said he, "I do not believe in prohibition. Why should I? Whisky, the chemists tell us, can be made from sawdust. That being the case, what good purpose could prohibition serve when all the thirsty would need to do would be to lay hold of a rip saw and go out side and get drunk on a fence rail?" Then why not make it of old fur niture, to keep the men employed making' it. Yarrow says: "Alcohol will varnish kidneys, etc, but of the lesser evils I prefer varnished kidneys to a brain vaTnished with prohibitory legisla tion augmenting to retard its action." It has been found that a cow fed on ensilage, which undergoes fer mentation, generates alcohol, which is transmitted to the milk. No won der bottle babies cry for more milk. Kil the cow; it's a living distillery. Perhaps that's why meat eaters are the worst drinkers. Dr. Louis E. Bisch, medical psy chologist, New York, says that the carbohydrates in chocolate oxidize JK quickly in the process of digestion and form a certain amount of alco hol. All who eat chocolates to ex cess are incipient drunkards. Be careful, girls, you may get the "habit" If all drys spoke as Grace R. Adams did, this country or even a county would never go dry. She is the best wet writer of feminine gender I have ever read. Albert Mickow. TO THE REV. J. MEYERS. I would like to ask the Rev. Meyers through The Day Book how he can reconcile the utterance credited to him through the trust press with his teaching of Jesus, the man of peace. Jesus preached: Peace on earth, good will to man. War is not peace. Sherman said it is hell. I believe Pres. Wilson is a man of peace, but between the kept press, food trust, ammunition trust, etc., he is between the devil and the deep blue sea. I like to hear Dr. Meyers preach of the Man of Peace and His great love for all mankind, but when he accuses men (who love and worship the same God as he himself) of treason, simply because they do not believe as he does, he thereby brands himself a traitor to the One who said: "Judge not lest ye be judged." Dr. Meyers is known throughout the country for his charity. I have heard it claimed more than once that this work was made possible through the contributions of big business. Dr. Meyers, do you think "their con science money would be necessary if big business paid the producer of wealth his dues? I believe every I true red-blooded American stands liMiAiMittiMAMIA
