land's school children are using a hoe
to acquire a broader education.
In 24 acres of gardens the young
sters have found culture attractively
wrapped up with cabbages, onions
and spuds.
Bean raising has taken its place
alongside baseball with the grammar
grade boys, while canning parties
engross the girls in the domestic
science kitchens.
Thus Portland expresses its prac
tical interest in the problem that has
been stated tp the federal farm loan
by 100,000 city folk asking back-to-the-land
advice.
