Europe is sending us her unfit her
old women and old men, her very
young, and her men "unfit for mili
tary duty"!
Between 75 and 80 per cent of all
immigrants entering the United
States come through this port of.
New York. And the war has NOT
stopped the flow of immigrants,
though it has considerably reduced
the stream, and has changed the
character of the,incoming tide.
1 B. H. Uhl, acting commissioner of
immigration here,. says:
"We are getting, now, women and
children, old men, and men unfit for
military duty.
"This is a natural result of the
war.
"Belligerent nations have, strin
gent restrictions upon emigration of
men of military age. And we are re
ceiving fewer young women than we
used to get."
