' HELPING THE DUFFS NAME THE BABY
Tom Duff and Helen are luckier
than most parents. They don't have
to bother about a name for their an
gel child. Day Book readers , have
rushed to their assistance with a va
riety of suggestions, and if- Tom
turns them all down and uses his own
judgment in selecting a name he will
have no one to blame but himself if
in after years the kid gets peeved
and beats up Pa because of his chris
tening. Here are some of the names Day
Book readers suggested: v
I think Leon Duff will fit him very
good. Theodore Wellick, 2903 Par
nell St.
I have quite a few names for Tom's
baby. Here they are: Russel, Edgar,
Harold, Tom, Alec, Richard, Andrew,
Vincent, Gordon, Percival, Jackie,

movie actpr of the helpless kid.
Knock the 'L out of Lizzie and
make him Izzie. C. M. L.
If I were Tom Duff I'd name the
little shaver Jerry. And perhaps if
Tom were me he'd name him Bill.
Bill Hawkins, 3456 Narragansett Av.
How about Onyx? Not because he
resembles that beautiful stone, but
because he came Onyxpected. H. C.
Why not name him Helto, part of
his mother's and father's name put
together? Interested Reader.
Name the little feller Freddie '

Hall, 7507 Greenview Av.

Longfellow Duff, because he was
born on the great poet's birthday.

My suggestion is Tom Duff, Jr.
Robert James, 868 E. 39th St.

block. Henry Hein and J. P. Blau.

Clavin, 2825 W. 22d St
We have watched'for Duff's baby
for so long you might let us name
him. Brother thinks William nice
and I would suggest Reginald.
Chas. J. Klineman and Lillian N.
Klineman, 4625 N. Kedvale Av.
Jack would be a splendid name for
the baby. Henry Benduhn. .
Name him one of these three:
Donald, meaning a proud chief; Gil
bert, meaning famous, and Napoleon,
meaning 'lion of the forest dell.

THE BEGINNING OF MUFFS
The muff has a history of its own.
It began life, so far as can be judged
from the absence of any previous
reference to it, in the year 1662, me
morable for the severity and dura
tion of its long frost. . Samuel Pepys
records in his diary that both he and
his wife wore their "muffes" in ,St.
James' park for the first time during
the winter of that year, and that on
the same occasion he, likewise for
the first time, watchSd a number of
people skating on the ice there; he
does not, however, furnish any par
ticulars as to how the "muffes" were
fashioned or how ornamented.
The muff, having once made its
appearance, had come to stay, and
throughput the eighteenth century
was affected as much by men as by
women, a fact attested -by many of
the portraits of the day.
