answer on this. I remain as yet. A Modest Man. have these places placed under closer regulation. Single Taxer. BURLESQUE INVESTIGATIONS. In your news article about the bur lesque show investigation, you refer to the "mature men who are patrons of the burlesque." You also refer to the investigators in somewhat iron ical language. As a friend of The Day Book, per mit me to call your attention to the fact that if there were no curb on the burlesque houses and upon those who make their money by appealing to the animal instincts of humanity, they would know no limit The people who investigate these places are to be commended? they certainly show public spirit. It ill becomes The Day Book to sneer at them. Have you ever attended these performances? If so, you have seen not only "mature men," but also youths of 17 and 18. These shows are certainly not inspirational to bet ter things, but are of a demoralizing character. As I understand, these investiga tions were made to gather data to present at Springfield in support of Senate Bill 130, which is designed to give the people relief from immoral shows. - Let me give 'you an illustration of the evil which these places cause. About a year ago I attended one of these burlesque shows. In the audi ence was a negro about 18 or 20 years old. - After the performance he exhibited many symptoms of uneasi ness. He was emotionally wrought up to a pretty high state of feeling. What consequences might not follow this condition? A good way to test whether or not the reformers should keep away from these places is to. ask yourself: "Do I want my boy to attend these performances, or'my daughter to ap pear on one of their stages?" As-a resident of Chicago for the past 36 years, I desire, to thank public-spirited men and women who are trying to TO "MODEST GIRL." You are a credit to your set and the fact that you are one of the minority does not make your views wrong. From per sonal experience and keen observa tion I can truthfully tell you that the more dignified and modest you will be the more you will be thought of by moral young men. Really, there is not much harm or good in a' kiss, but it serves as a stepping stone toward more deliber ate action and less considerate thoughts. The young man who expects to be recompensed hy a hug or kiss, when he takes you out, would most nat urally as the time goes on expect greater sacrifices to satisfy his sen suality. Keep up your dignity and do not allow any of those "nice" young men to kiss you. Their friend ship would not be beneficial to you. Surely with a population of almost 3,000,000 there can be found enough young gentlemen who ' would seek and enjoy your friendship for the qualities and virtues you possess, the greatest of which is modesty. I. W. o o WHO'S GOT A JOB FOR MAN WHO WANTS TO COME BACK? A convict is a "man tot &' that" If you will just bear that in mind, perhaps you can loate a job for Mar tin C. Hawkins, lately released from Jollet pen and now on the state hon or farm waiting for a chance to "come back." ' Since his commitment to Joliet, May, 1914, his record has been O. K, according to Warden Zimmer. Haw kins wants, to get a job that will earn him enough jnqney to carry him to Denver where his brother, a watch maker, will give him steady embpjoy ment. He's a painter by trade. Who's got a Job for him? o o Unidentified, mutilated body found in vacant lot at 736 S. Wabash a?.
