Vampires" is what we called our
selves at the start in 1916.
We have licked most of the teams
of our age and weight around San
Francisco and we are going to lick
some more this year. We "have a
clubhouse and wanted some pictures
for it One of the boys said that be
cause our team was named "-The
Vampires1' we ought to have a pic
ture of the best "vampire" in the
vampiring business as a starter.
We did not know how to get a pic
ture of her any other way, so we
wrote to Miss Theda Bara and asked
her for one. She sent it, and wrote
her name and soma other Stuff on. the
bottom. We framed it and have it
hanging in the clubhouse now.
What she wrote was this: "To 'The
Vampire Nine,' Tres Sincerement,
We didn't have any idea what that
"tres sincerement" meant, and we
puzzled over it a lot In fact, we
couldn't hardly read it at all, because
Miss Bara doesn't write; she prints
in a sort of funny, Frenchy way. So
I took the picture to the office where
I work and the boss told me "tres
sincerement" meant "very sincerely"
The job we elected Theda Bara to
was "president emeritus," whatever
that means. The boss said to call her
that We also call her "The Queen"
because we know that we'll skin all
the kids of our age now that we have
her picture in our clubhouse.
