Washington, April 19. If we are
going to WIN this war' we already
know we have got to raise vast funds
by taxation with which to crush' the
enemy; and if we are going to raise
these vast funds justly and quickly,
what we had better come to know
at once is this: That there is one
way to do it, and only one way by
PUBLICITY of the tax returns!
This is, to the digcralng, the one
OUTSTANDING item in all ' this
sloshing welter of talk about the cost
of the war now being indulged in by
our congress
For to those who see it is no mat
ter what rate of taxation upon theJ
incomes of our people is finally
adopted, inasmuch as its purpose is
BOUND to be defeated ultimately,
unless these incomes are HONESTi
LY REPORTED .
