An event that will 111 In the mom
aries of the prewnt members of the
mate Senate and the students of the
University la the visit that was made
this morning by the former to the
great Institution that adorns the bench
Wilt of the city Although the visit
of the senators was of a Mriousnature
the students Used the occasion to let
loose their vigorous spirits and oa a
consequence college cheers resounded
through the halls and corridors of the
buildings and pleasant badinage was
passed between rival crowds of atu
dents while they were In the assembly
room juvuttlne the arrival of the sen
ators
The party Was composed of Pres A > J
Evans Senators Allison Kissel Thorn
ag Whitney wnltmore Hinoot and
wife llurdock and daughter Lawrence
liennlon Tanner Johnson and wife
Larson Love Itepn ntatlve Ullllnifi
and Miss Woraley The party was met
by Dr Klngsbury and Prof Iyinan
and was cunducted to the faculty room
In the library building There Dr
Klngsbury explained to the senators
the plans that had been laid out in
constructing the University buildings
It was expected that the appropriation
made two year ago was adequate for
the construction of at least four build
Ings but because of the IIIIe In the price
of building material it was possible to
only erect three of the buildings
What the University wants at the
hands of the present Legislature Is an
appropriation sufficient to erect the
fourth building Dr Klngsbury esti
mated the com of the building at 157000
A machine shop II also required that
will cent about 5000
Now what we want said Dr Kings
bury Is an appropriation of about
IHOOCO to include the maintenance of
the Dranch Normal at Cedar City This
Is an Increase of 16000 over last year
Dr Klngsbury explained that the ad
ditional sum In required to meet the
demands of Increase In salaries and
the employment of new teachers
Dr Klngsbury averred that the plans
for the University were laid for all
time the ultimate aim being to have
about fifteen magnificent buildings
dotting the east foot hills
After finishing his explanations Dr
Klngsbury Prof Lyman and Prof
Stewart sscorted the party through
thithiee lundtlwhera4heaWWOf1
the University was Inspected In all of
Its branches
At 12 oclock the students gathered
In the assembly room In the Normal
building where some of as felicitous
Impromptu speeches as are often heart
were made Dr Klngibury presided
over the meeting Introducing an the
first speaker Senator Whitney whose
speech bristled with wit and amusing
anecdotes He gaid that lie felt much
like a southern governor who on visit
ing the Slate prison was called on to
address the convicts He began by
saying ladles and Gentlemen he
then realised that there were no ladles
present and he said Fellow cItizens
and then being reminded that the men
whom he addressed were not citizens
he exclaimed In despair I am glad to
see so many of you here
Senator Whitney then became serious
and addressed himself earnestly to the
students asking them to be loyal to
their teachers and to their Alma Mater
Short and pointed sii eches were
then made by Senators ISvans Allison
Smoot Love Klesel Itnnlon Law
rence Murdock Larsen Johnson
Barnes Tanner Thomas Whitmore
and Representative DtlllngsaH of whom I
pledged themselves to do the right
thing by the Unlvcnltyand appropriate
for It all that the State could sustain
lOach speaker was greeted with cheers
and the meeting adjourned amid a
tumult of enthusiastic hurrahs
After the students had extended to the
senators a vote of thanks through one
of their number and three cheers and
a tiger the colons boarded a street oar
and returned to the city

a cup of chocolate In her room at night
after returning from the Theater Last
night she was tired and nervous from
the art performance of lArd Chum
ley In her nervousness she poured
out more alcohol than she Intended
and when a lit tbe laynp the lam
rose dangerously high What hap
pened after that Miss Holt cannot very
well recall She thinks she tried to
blow out the lam At any rate the
flames flared to the lace curtains which
at once took lire Miss Holt screamed
for help and seizing the curtain pulled
them down The biasing lace fell on
her breast setting fire to the wrapper
she was wearing and then dropped to
te floor setting Ire to the carpet
Paying no attention to the flames In
her gown Miss Holt dragged the mat
tress from her bed and threw It on the
biasing carpet extinguishing the

Use inmate of the house and they came
to her aid She w found lying un
