By aecideut, this season, we have discovered something new to .us. Whether fo others or not we cannot say. It is tliis: By pruning a grape vine or at least some variotifts it can be made to fruit at any season of the year. We have ripe grapes to-day, nifd blossoms, and ail grades between on the same vine. We discovered this, to us singularity, in pruning a large vine constantly during summer, for the purpose of securing large clus ters for exhibition. SYSTEMATIC MAXAGESEXT OP SHEEP. We made a visit to the extensive Sheep Farm, in this county, under the management of S. Cochran. He Las now about eleven hundred sheep and cashmere goats. We have heard much of the management of sheep, but was never before, an eye witness. The entire flock isin excellent health, good order, and most perfectly discip lined. One-man and two dogs "han dled the flock when, where and at pleasure. To givo an example, we mention a fact almost incredible to our own eyes. On the farm is a fine garden, with an abundance of vegeta bles growing beets, cabbages, etc. up closely to a road running through it. The road is sixteen feet wide. To our utter astonishment the two dogs put the entire flock through that garden in the road described, and not one plant was nipped! We have read much heretofore, of stock being trained, so as to be driven through growing crops without Inju ry, but this is the first practical dem stration we ever witnessed. STATE JTAI3. If OTICE. No stock stalls, or space In the halls will be considered secured until a sea son tioket is procured. Two dollars procures a seasou ticket, which ad mits the bearer and his family under age to the grounds during the Fair, and to exhibit as ninny articles as he or she may desire without further expense. Stewart & UMpferejs,of the "Stew art Nnrserk," Macon City, Mo, are nearer Nebraska and Kansas than any other Nur series out of those State. To those who can not be accommodated in their States, stock can be obtained from this Norecry In twen-ty-fonr hours time. Satisfaction will Ite giv en as to Quality and condition of stock. -HWt As eneertefre Mil, We aovr repeat, ire win w pleasure In Teeetring am tmnrtirlmg orders to BF.jr of Mr adrertlalng pat rons. PA- Explanation to Life Kemhers anil Holders of Premium Certlfleates In Nemaha Connty Agricultural and Mechanical Association. We are requested by the Board of Directors of the Nemaha County Ag ricultural and Mechanical Association, to explain publicly one or two mat ters about which there .seems to be a want of understanding on the part of a few friends. A few of the life-members of the county association, are of the opinion that they are entitled to free admission into the State Fair. Tho county society, by resolution, agreed to fit up Itsgrounds, .nf tender them to the State board, free of ex pense ; the State board to have exclu sive control during the Fair,, and to enjoy all to e revenue. -By this means the State Fair was secured at this place. The life-membors of the coun ty society, therefore, nave no more right in the State Fair, than any one else". In all the county fairs, however, they will have free admission for themselves and families perpetually. Again,- Some who hold old certif icates or premiums awarded by the county association, ask that tickets' to the State Fair may be issued them. The same explanation Is applicable In this instance. Still again: Those to whom pre miums were awarded last year, and for previous years, are presenting their claims for payment. Last year the treasurer remained on the fair grounds, and at his office in Brown ville, for two days after the fair, and a day or two a month after, and of "which notice was given, In order to pay off all premiums. Then again, notice was given through the papers, that all premiums not called for by the first day of January, 18x0, would he considered donated to the society. The society must fix a time at which it must close up Its financial affairs, and.ascertain its condition in this re spect. All premiums, therefore, not called for by the first of JanuaryJast, have been declared by the board do nated. Money was in the treasury up to that time to pay all premiums. Since that time what funds the socie ty had, has been; used in improving the. grounds. We are pleased to note the Interest Nebraska Local papers are taking in Agricultural matters. "We repeat what we have often said heretofore, that if each weekly paper in this State would set apart one page, and de vote it exclusively to Agricultural and kindred subjects, they could not please their patrons better, nor con fer greater benefits to the country. This will soon induce farmers and others to write, giving their experi ence in this Stale, and great good will be the result. The following very sensible and appropriate article we copy from the Blair, Washington County Times: There are a large number of agricul tural papers published in the United States. Some of them are excellent, meeting the wants of their readers, and coming up to the just expecta tions of an intelligent farming com munity. But with few exceptions the Agricultural papers, for better or worse, are published in regions where the climate and soil are different from ours, and whero various causes make the system of farming different from what suits in Northern Nebraska. It is a thoughtless act for an editor out here to extract a well digested article from an Eastern paper on the use of manures, whether barn-yard or bought, whether compost or raw, whether to be top-dressing, or plough ed in, for, probably, neither the prin ciples nor the method would be appli cable in this part of the. country. There are some good agricultural papers in Iowa and Nebraska, we be lieve, and we hope to have them on our exchange list, The Agriculturist, of Omaha, though there is loo much "Omaha" in it, is a well conducted and useful paper, and we would like to see It supported in our vicinity, and elsewhere, Col. Furnas is an en thusiastic friend of agriculturo, and as before he was candidate for Gover nor, he made the Brownville Adver tiser a crood agricultural as well as Bearstlfv your Homes.
