Tho main subject for consideration by the
Tassenger Committee's conference, which
was presided over by Commlfslot.er Farm
er, was the proposed appointment of a
committee to consider ar.d report on a re
distribution of the Immigrant business.
While the Western lines have been main
taining an immigrant Lureau in this city
through which a pro rati distribution of the
businety of transporting linrr-Isrants inland
wai effected among the various Western
lines tho Eastern lines have not supported
a similar bureau, although there has been
a great deal of discussion of the subject.
At the meetlnp; yesterday thU discussion
resulted In tho appointment of a committee
which Is to arrange an equitable distribu
tion of this traffic among the different line.
The committee is composed of George II.
Daniels of tho New York Central, Charles
a. Iee of the Lehigh Valley, and J. IL
Wood of tho Tennsylvanla. The delibera
tions of this committee will probably result
In tho establishment of a permanent com
mittee on Immigrant transportation.
Tho Question of excess fares on fast
trains and differential rates were, not con
sidered or even mentioned at this meetin?,
although tho agitation against these rule
has not eiulto subsided In Chicago, being
kept alive by spasmodic accusations against
various Lues of a breach ot tho rule-. Tho
latest report In this lino is to the effect
that tho Nickel Plato had stopped charging
excess fares in its twenty-six-hour train

To Test Hellof Associations.
Attorney General Sheets of Ohio will en
ter suit asaiirst the Pennsylvania Railroad
Company to test the right of that company
to force its employes to enter a so-called
voluntary relief association. The suit is

sustained tbe result will be a knoek-out
blow to the relief associations of ail rail
roads. Tho suit is to be brought at the re

New Clnclnnatl-ChlcaRo Line.
Nearly everything is in readiness for the
layin ot Iron on the Cincinnati Richmond
and Muncie, the new short line between
Cincinnati and Chicago. This work will be
gin at Cottage Grove, seventeen miles south
of Richmond, where connection is made
with the C. II. & D. The switches to con
nect the two roads already have been laid
and Iron and ties are being received.
