A tourist struck the city Wednesday
afternoon and Immediately proceeded to
busiuees, says the Silver City Knterprlse.
He was ostensibly a cripple, and with
much effort managed to navigate and
excite the pity ot the benevolently In
clined. He was a lead pencil artist aud
dleposed of his mires to the nnwary at
prices ranging from a Dickie to any
amount the purchaser's sympathy would
allow him to contribute. He was ac
companied hy a pair of crutches, as a
side Issue, but Marshal Kllhuro, whole
drawing bis salary from the city, and,
Is taking uo chances on the hereafter,
run him In. It developed later on, that
cltlxsn D. C. McMlllen met with the gen
tleman at Whltehlll wells in the after
main and he had his crutches on his
shoulder and was hitting the road at a
four mile per hour gate. Vthen McMll
len met him In the city a few hours later
his casual acquaintance of the road did
not recognize him, as Dan had shaved,
put on a suit of store clothes, and had
changed his Identity completely. The
tourist did not recognize his erstwhile
friend, and when he "braced" him, Dan
gave him some fatherly advice, which he
did not see Ht to ti.ke. He was not a re
turned "llongh Kider," who had fed on
Mauser bullets, hardtack and swamp fe
ver, but he got there just the earns. His
sympathetic tale of woe touched the hu
