Denver, In a recent lsue eay that
New Mexico can not now be rightful
ly termed a two or three-county
mining territory, for Santa Fe, 8an
Miguel, Lincoln, Otero, Rio Arriba,
Taos, Colfax, Bernalillo and Luna
courotles are sharing the activity In
the Influx of Investors to the three
principal producing counties of the
territory, vis: Grant, Socorro and
Blerra. In emphasis of this statement
the Mining Reporter cites the follow
ing: The Monte Carlo and Copper Qseen
properties In "the Orogrande section
of Otero county are prosecuting ex
tensive developments, whereby mln
able ore bodies are being exposed; the
coal and metal mining camps of Ma
drid, Cerrlllos, San Pedro and Golden
In Santa Fe country are giving em
ployment to several hundred men,
while the Santa Fe Gold and Copper
Mining company, which is producing
at the rate of 2,006,000 pounds of
copper annually. Is to Increase its fifty-ton
matting plant to 160 tons ca
pacity, and the old mines of the Cer
rlllos camp, which were abandoned
some twenty years ago on account of
the sine contents f the ore, are now
being successfully reworked: the old
Bromide camp, seven miles -to the
west of Tres Piedros, In Taos county,
Is also in a flourishing condition, en
couraging explanations being under
way and new machinery of a heavier
type being installed at a number of
In Colfax county there Is a notice
able Increase In coal mining opera
tions, while the placer and quartz
mining operations in various portions
of Klo Arriba county were a feature
of the news items for the past two
months; in the Nogal district of Lin
coln county the operations ere be
coming more widespread, and tue re
gion is about to be benefited by the
advent of a narrow gauge railroad
Grant county made Its usual pro
gress during July aa Is shown by the
continuous operation of the Coman
che Mining and Smelting company's
reduction works at Sliver City, in
creased production in the Burro
mountain section, the employment of
upwards of 1,300 men in the Han
over, Flerro, Santa Rita and Copper
Flat camps, and the daily production
of about 1,060 tone of Iron ore for
the Colorado Fuel and Iron com
pany. The month's development in the
Mogollon camps of Socorro county
were noteworthy on account of the
disclosing of Important ore bodies
at greater depths In the older mines,'
and Important atrlea In outlying
aread. There was a considerable In
crease of lnc production from the
Kelley nine camp, but this produc
tion Is to be greatly increased now
that the Tri-Bullion Smelling and
Refining company is to erect a large
smelter at Crrnon City, Colorado,
which will afford a nearer market
for the ores.
Quartz mining operations In the
Hlllsboro camp of Sierra county,
showed a marked Improvement over
the preceding months of the year;
while the old camp's rejuvenation
may appear slow, It Is on a substan
Mogollon and linos Altos District.
Extensive development continues
to be the rule In the Mogollon and
Finos Altos mining districts of New
C W. Gregory has made a very
rich strike In the Plnos Altos district
that Is to add. It seems, to the fame
of that old district. He has struck
ore at a depth of twenty-five feet
that carried 114.70 gold, 80 ounces of
silver and considerable lead. It Is
free milling ore and an assay shows
a total value of a little over $490
per ton and workings so far Indicate

has a shaft down to a depth of about
forty-five feet from which he has
taken out twenty tons of ore. He
was in Silver City last week making
arrangements to have it treated at
the smelter of the Comanche Mining
and Smelting company. The mine I"
located Just about 1.000 feet ensst of
the Pino Altos road.
The Top Mining company. wMfh
was organized In Silver City last
week, has received a large shipment
of machinery, which was at once
tranoported to the property. In the
Mogollon district. The machinery con
sists of a large gasoline engine, hoists,
steam drills, etc., to be used in sink
ing the shaft several hundred feet.
This company was only recently or
ganized with J. K. CofTey, president;
D. R. Bronell, secretary, and J. W.
Carter, treasurer. Quite a number of
Silver City business men have taken
blocks of stock in the company and
it Is considered by mining men to De
one of the best mining Investments
to be had In that section. The Top
mine is Joined on one side by the fa
mous Last Chance mine and on the
other by the Helen, two of the rich
est and biggest producers In the
southern part of New Mexico.
The Leopold-Tyrone Copper com-
Canv has been organized by Frank
. Krleder of Goldfleld, Nev.. to op
erate In the Burro mountains. Mr.
Krleder has purchased a group of
four claims located near the Copper
Gulf propertv. A contract hss been
let to sink the shaft 250 feet or
over, and the shaft is now down 100

OVER ZEIGER'S CAFE
Through the kindness of Messrs.
Meyers and Peck, proprietors of the
Zeiger cafe, Areonaut Blondln has
been granted the use of quarters tn
the Zeiger building for his aerodome.
In this place he will varnish hid
balloon and make all the prepara
tions for his feature at the territorial
fair. The aerodome will be open to
visitors who wish to view the aero
naut's charts, instruments, equip
ment, etc. During the fair the cap
tive balloon will be operated within
the oval at Traction park at a place
where it can be seen to advantage
by the visitors.

DITCH IS SUED
Roswell, N. M.. August 17. John
F. McMurray, a lawyer from South
McAlester, I. T., who bought several
hundred acres of land six or seven
miles each of Roswell last year, has
laid claim to a portion of the water
that feeds the northern canal, owned
by farmers in the Hagerman district
and has opened a ditch and is taking
He says he Is entitled to a flow 20
feet wide and one foot deep, under
an appropriation made 20 years ago.
The Hagerman ditch owners have
entered suit against him and one of
the etubbornest legal fights that has
been known In the Pecos valley seems
