The proceedings lu tho Legislature on
tho 81st Baturdaj ivcro of a somewhat
intcrcstingcanncter Wo have only space
to present a brief synopsis of tho most
important bills offered
Istiie SeNATE A petition by llrErath

Bill as orlglually Introduced also a
petition by HrTrollingcr from the citizens
of Grayson county asking the same thing
Air Wcstrall a motion to call up Houio
BUI entitled an act to ascertain the
amount due teachers of Public Schools
prior to July 1878 nnd providing for the
payment of the same Tho rules were
suspended and the bill passed
Mr Baker nu net exempting the wcges
of laborers from Garnishment
Mr Swift presenting articles of address
against Hon Win Chambers Judge of
tho First District
IstueHousb Mr Stephens an tct
incorporating tho Midland Iiailroad Com

Mr DcVorsc an act requiring that
all laxs so eoon as passed shall be pubs
lislicd in two papers In iach Senatorial
District for three successive weeks in the
weekly issue aud that tho Secretary of
titato shall causo this to bo done The
object is that the people may become ac
quainted with tho nature ot all laws as
soon as passed which the publication in
a limited form after the Legislature ad
journs docs not permit
Tho bill offered by DcMorsc the gist
of which we give above is to our mind
ono of the most practical importance to
the people llut we arc of tho opinion
that the object would havo been better
subserved were tho laws printed in every
newspaper in the State The peoplo are
the parties most interested and Texas has
a population proverbial for its cxtensiye
patronago of newspapers and equally so
for tho extensive reading they give them
In this view of it no means can bo taken
that would insuro tho greater publicity of
tho luns than tho oue proposed by Dcs
Morse Wo hopo It will become a law
