Once I run a polish blznlss.

Mrs. I'ullwiilili, look a weiMing tour to all
the bet w-ntering.plnces, anil ju!t came
lioine nml eoiunieiieeil keeping house on
the 1st of September. I'ullwlilth was tired
out with his Summer vacation, nml Insisted
on commencing housekeeping nt once, be
cause thcru is no comfort in boarding
houses. He vrmiteil n quiet time. For
two days he went (low n town In the first car
every night, with baskets full of queen
swarc, ami bundles of oil-cloth, and rolls
of paper an'l carpet, papers of tacks, pack
ages of screws, sacks of vegetables, and
arm loads of roasts nml boils and chops
and steaks, and he never missed a car nil
day, going up mid down with loads of fur
niture, upholstery cooking utensils and
tilings to eat. At tlio end of tho second
day lie found they had all the rooms in the
hotiu filled with miscellaneous good", nnd
no place to put them, and ho "couldn't
turn around" in tho cellar, so full was it of
ussoitci! meats and vegetables. Then he
asked Mrs. 1'iilhviiltli if she had eicrylliing
she wauled, nnd she said "ye all but
some tomatoes, green corn, lima bean,
crook-nceked squash, egg-plant, nparngu,
green pea, and a tew va.icties of water
lucluns to put up ficsli in cans, and some
grapes, plums, peaches, pear, quinces,
bananas, pineapples mid strawberries to
preserve, some uiab-npidcs ami red cur
rants for jellies, some blackberries for jam
and a few bushels of elderberries to make
wine of in case of that is in cae I rather
in case we should need it; ma always kept
a little elderberry w ine iu the house." Mrs.
F. tnld, wlili a dreamy smile. Fullwidth
was never married before, and had no idea
how much business there was connected
witli it. He had filled up his cellar with
potatoes, turnips, cabbages and shelled
corn, and now found lie didn't have any
thing lie wanted. He went down to mar
ket and bought a few bushels of everything
he saw. Then he had no boiler to cook
them in and no cans to put them in, and had
no idea huw many they would want, lie en
gaged n tinsmith to go to the house and make
an estimate. The tinsmith made an esti
mate, and set up a shop in tlio back yard,
where he had two men and an apprentice
hammering on tin cans all day, and some
extra timo at night. The kitchen wak
blockaded with decaying fruits nnd veget
ables, and the back yard was rendered im
passable by all kinds of d'abolical machines
for seaming, folding, bending nnd grooving
tinware. -Mrs. F. got a headache from the
noio of thu tinsmith, and had to tit in the
parlor rocking-chair all day with the win
dow blinds closed ; the hired girl was ' tight"
at all hours. .Mr. F. had to engage n cou
ple of colored men to put up the fruits, nnd
they left the cans out doors all night, and
in tho morning they were gone; and at last
Mrs. F.'s mamma had lo go up to set the
himo to lights. She told Mrs. W. how
she was imposed ou by her unfeeling hus
band, who was ' roudihg her to dentil witli
overwork, and now Fullwidth takes his
meals down town and sleeps on a lounge
in the, bath room, and wonders who In the
world invented housekeeping. I'ititlvfg

how well ii pair of boots can be made to fit
at tlio store. You may be able to get vour

sweaty or you haven't started right, and the
shoe-maker suggests that you start again
and stand up to it, und he throws iu a little

so you stand up and pound (low u your loot,
