Delegates cro jrcsent from tlio 1'rcjlijteri.in Geneml Asicmlilicii, both Old eclioul mid N'ew School, from ths Congre (ittionnl church of Cnrmil.i, from tho Congre gational C'omcntion of Maine, ic , &e. 'I ho quevtlon of Hurry had a Ancv in the discussions A scrip" of resolution", nssevtitig the rights of Ministers of tho Gospel) denoun cing tho Kchraska Mil, and thanking Messrs. Stward, Mcacliam, Sumner, and others, for their tlcfonco of the X. il. clergy, in Con gross uero offered and ft warm discussion followed The resolutions were opposed hy Prof Torrcy, Hcv. Messrs. Wiekham, Lord, Dougherty, li.inks of Ark , and others, who sero disposed to moid a mingling of religion and polities, helievcd that tho rights of the clergy needed no assertion, and were diin clined to notice unfounded attacks which injured only tho maker of them. A resolution to the ellect that the Contention viewed with horror the recent movements towards Slavery extrusion and were resolved to oppose all such extension, until the evil should he removed, was finally suhstitutedand passed unanimous, hi The report upon the state of tho church in Vermont, showed on the whole a decreaso in the nutntier of members, the deaths having been about 250 and the dismissions upon change of reaidenco numerous, while tho ad ditions fell short of hist year by some .10 or tlO. The Contention, alter an unusually in teresting session, marked on tho whole hy great propriety and harmony, closed on Thurs day, P. M., with the usual communion ser vice and 6ermon. Revivals hate recently been experienced in Whitehall and Norwich, X. Y., and in Mid dleton and Xorth Greenwich. Conn. Tho Kpiscnpal Convention in Rhode Island adjourned without electing a Bishop for tho Diocese. Hcv. Dr. W illiam, Assistant liishop of Connecticut, was invited to per form episcopate duties in the Diocese until the meeting of another Convention, bpecial or annual. A "Colporteur Contention," of great inter est, cljsed at St. Louis on tho Gth, after a ses sion of 6ix days. Though the convention was composed of less than forty members, they were connected with eleven different denomi nations, yet, while the interchange of opin ion was perfectly free, and tho intercourse of the members was most intimate, the fact was repeatedly stated hy members, that they had been unable to ascertain the denominational preference or relations of their association The ater.igo age of the members of tho con vention is forty-three years men in the vigor of life prudent, pious, self-denying men. Thirteen of the colporteurs wero Germans laboring nmong their countrymen. The Geneial Conference of tho Methodist Hpiscopal Church (South) made considerable changes in the church government. In the report on episcopacy, the committee say that one reason for increasing the number of their !ihops, is that one of them may, during the greatest portion of the time, travel ami also preach cxtensitcly within the hernials of the Pacific conference. Another i, that the col- nrol populu'ion liny enjoy inoro of tho servi c s ol a lfish.ip than they lirc-e hcretofon ibine The last number of the "Shepherd of the 1 uiV. y" (St Louis) was issued Sitnrdiy the editor aiinouiicin that ho could no long (r continue its publication at a loss. AYER'S PILLS, ncw and simrularlv cuceessful remedy for th cure of all Ililiou diseases Costive ness, Indi gestion, Jaundice, Drop-sy, Hheumatim( Fciers, (iout, liumors, cnou.nes Irritability, Inflamma tions, Headache, Tains in the Urrast, Side, Back, and Limb Tfinale Complaint"., cS,c.,c. Indeed, tery few are the diseases in w hich a Purcati e Medi cine is not more ur les-s required, and much fcick ne8 nnd liulierinR miht be precntcd, if a harm less but etUciUsil CaDmrtic vtte more Irtely uncd. No ptrnon can feel well while a costne habit of body prevails ; besides it soon Renerates herious and often fatal diseases, hich miRht ha e been aToided bv the timely and judiciou use of a good purgathe. This is alike true of Colds, Fet erish s niptomi, and Bilious derani;emejits, Ihey all tend to become or produce the dtep seated and formidable distempers which load the hearses all oer the land. Hence a reliable family ph) sic is of the first importance to the public health, and this Pill hut been perfected with consummate skill to meet that demand. An eUensite trial of its virtues by Physicians, Profes sors, and Tatients, has shown results surpassing any thing hitherto known of any medicine. Cures hae been effected beyond belief, were they not .sub stantiated by persons of Ruch exalted position and character as to forbid the suspicion of untruth. Among the eminent gentlemen to whom we are allowed to rclcr tor tnee tacts, are Piiop. Valfntinf. Mutt, the distinguished Sur geon of New York City. Doct. A. A. Haes, Practical Chemist of the Port of Boston, and Geologist for the State of Mas sachusetts. In a L. Moore, M D., an eminent Surgeon and Phsician, of the City of Lowell, who hat long used them in his extensile practice. H. C. Socthwick, Esq., one of the first mer chants in New York City. C. A. Davis, M. D., Sup't and Surgeon of th United States Marine Hospital, at Chelsea, Mass. Did 6pace permit, we could gie many hundred such names, from all parts where the rills have been used, but evidence even more convincing than the certificates of these eminent public men is shown in their effects upon trial. These Pills, the result of long investigation and study, are ollered to the public as the best and most complete which the present state of medical science can afford. They are compounded not of the drugs themselves, but of the medicinal virtues only of Vegetable remedies, extracted by chemical process in a state of purity, and combined together in such a manner as to insure the best results. This 8) stem of composition for medicines has been found in the Cherry Pectoral and Pills both, to produce a more e fhcient remedy than had hitherto been ob tained by any proces. The reason is perfectly ob vious. While by the old mode of composition, ev ery medicine is burdened with more or less of acri monious and injurious qualities, by this each indi vidual virtue only that is desired for the curatWs eifect is present All the inert and obnoxious qual ities of each substance employed are left behind, the curative virtues only being retained. Hence it is self-evident the ctrccta should prove as they have proed more purely remedial, and the Pills a surer, more powerful antidote to disease than any other medicine known to the world. As it is frequently expedient that my medicine should be taken under the counsel of an attending Ph)sician, and as he coidd not properly juJce of a remedy wtthout knowing its composition, I have supplied the accurate Formulae by which both my Pectoral and Pills are made to the whole body of Practitioners in the United .States and British Amer ican Frounces. If however there should be any one who has not received them, they will be promptly forwarded bv mail to his address, Of h tho Patent Medicine that itrit oAt-red, how few would be taken if their composition was known 1 Their life consists in their mystery. I )mt no mysteries. 'lhe composition of my preparations is laW epen to all men, and all who nro competent to jjdge on the subject freely acknowledge their ccnviitions of their intrinsic merits. The Cherry Pectoral was pronounced by Kitntific men tu be a wonderful mt'dicine before its i"fTects were known, Manv em. incut Physicians hate dcclaud tho same thing of my Pills, nnd cen more confidently, and are will tag to certify that their anticipations were more than realized by their erfects upon trial, They operate b) their powerful influence on the internal t isce ra to purify the blood and stimulate it intJ healthy action rnnose the e.ustructions of the stomach, bowels, liver, and other organs if the body, restoring theit uregular action to health, and by rcnecting, wheiewr they exist, surh derange menu as are the first origmof diat.e.
