President Zachary Taylor.
Zachary Taylor is one of the least
known of our presidents. He held of
fice only 10 months, but in that time
he displayed such courage and strength
of character as to endear himself to
the people. He came to the office prac
tically unknown and unknowing! His
victories in the Mexican war had
made him famous, but he was not
known to the politicians, nor did he
know any of them. He bad been called
"Old Bough and Beady," but he wns
not such a blustering, uncouth man as
people had thought.
