HORRORS OF THE BOMBARDMENT.
The Tirbune's special telegram, under
ditto of London, January 16, gives ua the
following interesting particulars of the lust
.ortie, tod of tbe bombardment of Pari.:
A dispatch just, received from Versailles
on the night of the 13th, says that vigor
ous sorties have been made by the garrison
of Paris in three several directions. The
French simultaneously advanced against
the Prat-tan Guards near Le Bourget and
Drancy, Northeast of Paris; against the
Eleventh German Corps, near Meudon,
Southwest of Paris ; and against the
Second Bavarian Oorpg, near Clamart, alao
to the South of tho city. The fighting in
.ach institneo was .pirited, but resulted
everywhere in the defeat of the Freuch,
who, repulsed srt all points, retreated
rapidly within their works, a portion of
them in great disorder.
Paris newspapers furnish interesting
partiC-ltri of the bombardment. They
unite iv saying that a rain of projectiles,
some weighing 90 kilograms, unparalleled
In the history of the siege, was pouring
into that portion of Paris lying between
tho Hotel dcs Invalids and the Odeoa.
Tho bombardment continues without inter
ruption throughout the day and night, and
was so violent on tho night of tho Bth,
between the Church of the Sulpice and the
Museum, that shells fell every two min
utes. Hospitals, ambulances, schools, the
public libraries, the Churches of St. Sul
pice, the Sarbonne, and Val de Graca, ai:d
many privato houses havo been struck.
Women were killed both in the streets and
their beds, and infants in their mother's
arms. One projectile which fell in the
Hue Vangirand killed four children and
wounded fivo others. The unrivaled works
of art in the Luxemburg and the Museum
wero destroyed. The Hospital Val de
Graca snflered greatly, and wounded sol
, diers were there killed io their beds.
The luiinbardnient was contiuued all the
night of tbe 1 Uh, shells falling every min
uto in tho St. Sulpice quarter. Forts
D'lssy, Vantes, and Montrouge also can
nonaded with great violence. The reply
from tho external batteries was so effective
as to Inflict great damage upon the Prus
sian fortifications and cause a slackening
of tin ir Bte. Forts Nogeut, the village of
Font.oay, and the bend of tho Maruo wero
also bombarded without important result.
The forts on the eastern side of tha city
cannonaded the entire Prussian lino iv that
direction with much effect.
A dispatch from Versailles says the
bombardment of Paris continued oa the
14th. Forts Issy, Vanves and Montrouge
were silent.
