Recorder of Hardin county, lowa, has a
wonderful pocketbook, according to this
from tho Eldorado Ledger: It was made
of pig skin, dressed by one of tho pilgrim
fathers, and manufactured into its presont
shape by himself. It wits from tho back
of the first hog fclain by the colonists. A
forefather of Col. Stout's carried tho pig
skin wallet through tho French war and
tho Indian, and was shot besido the brave
General Wolf, on tho bloody heights of
Abraham, iv September, 1759. The
pocketbook, containing some English coin,
found its way back to tho right family,
and held notliing but English coin and
Bank of England notes until the revolu-
Colouel Stout's grandfather marched
with it on his person to Canada with Gen
eral Montgomery. It, was at Stillwater ;
ferried tho Delaware at the memorable
Trenton surprise ; and when peace wis de
clared, contained two thousaud dollars of
Continental currency, must of which its
present owner retain*. In the late inter
necine war, Colonel Job Stout carried the
pig-skiu wallet through several engage
ments, and when he fell at Richmond, the
historical wallet of pilgrim pig-skiu was
perforated with bullets and saturated with
blood. Tho Ootou I's oosit is now on ex
hibition at 15i'i..;...(. sis, riddled by forty
hundred and ninety y sirs.
