THE DAILT DISPATCH *f A® Bllptteli Old Point Co*ro*T, Va., ) Angmtt 5, 1852. \ Mi*»ri. Ehitorm—On looking ovor the pa per* io (he reading room attached to the Hy reis Hotel, my eye fell upon a number of the Richmond Dispatch. and »o wan t to ge t hold of it befor- an* »oe else—for the pre ference it has over all other Richmond papers ia verv ei*at—that I threw down the "mam moth"' New York Herald, and commenced perusing, the "little pet," as it ia generally termed by all who have ever read two num tors of it. I found it very interesting, ami did I intend remaining here any length of time, I should like to have it mailed me regularly WMJ day. U.i For the life of me I cen'c conceive why such a finely situated watering place ss this, should have such a small nsmber of visitors, espe cially at the height of the season. I here is nothing wanting, I assure you, on the pari ot the gentlemanly proprietors of the Hvgeia Hotel, Messrs. Reynolds &. Co., to render the sqjourn cf the seeker of health or pleasure, as agreeable as can l>e done at any other water* iag place on the globe. They spread a table with every thing that the Norfolk, Richmond and Baltimore markets can supply; the rootne are spacious and airy, and have the moat alien' live servants 1 ever saw at any hotel. The number here at present is very small sot mote than one hundred at the outsidt .— Every btx'y and every thing look so gloomy thst one might aa well be in the midst of son < desolate wilderness. The tune generally sunj it such places is entirely changed, and insteai »f being too much crowd there is not crow< motif h. Some few repaired to the magnificent ball room last night, to "thread the mazy," (as Dick Swiveller hath it,) but it was "no go;" and the poor musicians had to "bang up the fiddle and the bow," and leave the disappoint ed ones to hop around the sea shore to the doleful music of the rolling waves. It is, vithout exception, the dullest company it has •»er been my lot to full in with. The ladies keep their rooms all day, and only show them selves at table or at night on the sea shore.— McEvoy will buve to come here and put them on the right truck. The surf bathing here is delightful, and guarded against accidents such as 1 have seen recorded in your paper, happening at Cape May. The amusements consist of a fine band, pisiol gallery, billiard und itu piu saloons, pleasure bouts and fishing; and tiie lar-fained New Orleans Opera Troupe are expected here this evening, to amuse the company with their inimitable concerts. Gen. Scon left here Monday afternoon in tljn boat (or Baltimore, en route for West Point, K» join a part of bis family at that place. His health has improved considerably l>y his visit. On his departure a salute was fired froin the ramparts of Foriress Monroe, which, together with the ringing of (he steamboat hell, blowing off steam, and the cheering of the passengers, cieated quite a seen* of "nois'i mid coiifusion" Jor the time being. The General was accom panit-d by ex-Governor Fisii of N. V., and se veral other distinguished personages. Richmond is represented by William Jacq Taylor, of the City Hotel, and one * ould sup pose from the manner in which he enjoys him self that he has "got the hang" of Old Point, if he couid'nt get "the hang"' of a complimen tary toast offered at u private supper last Ja nuary. The gong has sounded for lea, nnd I must hid vni» good evening-.
