II, Brophy, manager of the Cop per Queen store, accompanied by his son, Prank, was a passenger outbound yesterday for the northern portion of the territory, where he will Bpend the next two weeks on a fishing trip. "Mother" Jones, the Socialist orator, arrived -in the city last evening from Tombstone. C. J. Overlook, Jr., arrived in the city yesterday afternoon from the Smelter City, and will spend the day here visiting friends. Rev. Harvey M. Shields returned to the city last evening from Tombstone, whero ho had been called as a witness in tho "Williams case. E. P. Woods, connected with the Ducy & Overlook brokerage offices, was a passenger outbound last even ing Tor Douglas, where he will spend a few days on business for the firm. E. E. Zabriskle, formerly of Arizona, but lately from the City of Mexico, ar rived in the city yesterday morning from the south, and will leave today for Cananea to Inspect some mining property in which he is interested. S. W. Clawson, superintendent of the Copper Queen mines, returned to the city last evening from Tombstone. Homer Rambo and son Calhoun, will leave this morning for Douglas, to make that place their fu ture home. . o CONFER DEGREES. The local -council of the Knights of Columbus held a session at the lodge rooms in the Pythian Castle last even ing for the purpose of conferring the first and second degrees of the order on a number of candidates. This after noon those who received the first two degrees last evening, and a number who have not yet been admitted to the mysteries of the third degree, will re ceive that honor, and will become full fledged knights. Superintendent Harlan of the Mod ern mine, which Is being operated in Tombstone Canyon northwest of 'the.; cU. arrived in the cltyyesterday lor the purpose of arranging Tor supplies for the camp. The superintendent re ports that developments' at the prop erty ia of the most favorable character. Hurray, well known mecnanl cal engineer, arrived In .the city yes terday morning from Globe, and will spend the next two -weeks in the War ren District attending to matters of business. Murray came to the city from Globe, where he has spent the past two- weeks, and expressed him self as being astounded at the wonder ful growth of the Gila county camp. With each succeeding day the plans formulated by the party of autolsts who will make a trip through the terri ory are being enlarged upon, and now Include several more places of inter est. Starting from lilsbee on Monday afternoon of next week the party will go to Benson, and the following day will make the run to Phoenix. Prom the capital city It has been about definitely decided that a side, trip will be taken to the great Tonto Dam, which is now under course of erection 68 miles northeast of Phoenix. The road to Roosevelt is one of the engin eering feats of Arizona, and it is prob able the most substantial highway in the territory. The chaplain attended the initiation of a largo class Into the Knights of Columbus at Phoenix, and at the banquet which concluded the ceremonies responded to a toast in the manner which has mad,? him famous In Arizona as a pub lic speaker. DOUGLAS, May 29. (Special.) H. B. Callsher today received a tel egram from El Paso announcing the marriage of his brother. Joe Callsher, of this city, to Mrs. Mary A. Wood, also of Douglas. Details were not git en. It is known here that the groom of today's wedding went to El Paso Sun day, expecting to meet Mrs. Wood In that city. Sho has been In Louisville, Ky., for several weeks on a visit and was to have Joined Mr. Callsher Mon day evening. Evidently their plans did not miscarry. They will remain in El Paso several days and then return to Douglas. Their honeymoon trip will be taken next ifibnth. The groom, with his brother, H. B., conducts the Callsher clothing and drygoods houses In this city. Mrs. Wood formerly conducted tho Leslie house. Each is wen and favorably known among a numerous circle of friends. . NOTES FROM GUAYMAS r Mr. J. E. McLean, master mechanic of the Cananea, Rio Taqut & Pacific railway, with headquarters at Guay mas. has had his jurisdiction extend ed to Include the northern division of the road, with local headquarters at Mr. J. W. Small, superintendent of mothe power and machinery for the Randolph lines In Arizona and Sonora, was at Guaymas last week, on official business. Friday evening the gentle man returned to his headquarters at Tucson. Mr. George H. Lesser has been ap pointed paymaster or the Cananea, Rio Yaqui & Pacific railway, which position he asumes in addition to the duties of paymaster of the Sonora railway, under the title of cashier. He Is made paymaster of the Sonora railway also, the cashier's office of the Sonora railway having been re moved to Tucson, ana Mr. Cbas H. Walker is appointed cashier of both roads, with oflicea in that city. Last Friday there ornved at Guay mas Mr. Theodore Dougras, manager for the Douglas Copper Company, jnK a reduction plant at Fundicion station, on the Cananea, Rio Taqul & Pacific railway, and a narrow guage railroad to connect the plant with the mines. Mr. Douglas reports that the work is progressing very satisfactorily Last week Guaymas was visited by a delegation of promrnent gentlemen of Hermosille, who came to Join in the reception tendered to Don Ramon Corral, the distinguished son of Son ora, who Is now vice-president of the -'republic. They were General Luis E. Torres, governor; Vice-Gov-ernor Cubilas: Ex-governor Rafael Iz abal; Max Mullcr, manager of the Ban co de Sonora: Ismale' M. Ruiz, man ager of the Sonora bianca or the Chi huahua bank; Dr. A. G. Noriega; bi mon Bley of the house of Bley broth ers; Juan Bojorquez; A. B. Montever de. editor of La Constltutlcion; Fell zardo Verdugo; W. E. Bristol, and many others. With the development of the region along the line of the Cananea, Yaqui River and Pacific railway there has been a large influx of Americans at Guaymas, many having Interests out in the new region and making their headquarters and homes at the Sonora metropolis. During the season the American ladies resident have devoted every Saturday afternoon to a social gathering at which participants have exceeded forty in number. Oasis. HendricKson a -farrrer of Hartford, discovered that three pigs had been stealing the milk from the -cow ana fatening themselves for three months. Hendrickson watched, many nights to see if some thief was milking the cow, but he caught no one. Every morning me cow was dry. as usual and he had her examined by a veter inary to -ascertain -the cause. William Downs, a negro, was arrested by the police on the charge of assault to mur der, tho crime alleged to have been committed in a saloon on Anthony street, near the Union station. It was said by the police that Downes and two other negroes, Geo. amim ana Turner Brown, had "squab bled" while playing a gamo of bil liards and that Downes. losing his temper, brought his six shooiei imo tho game. Five shots were fired, but none took effect. The police say that Smith and Brown ran out of the sa loon at the first shot and that Downes shot at the fleeing negroes. When the case was taken up In Jus tice Marshall's court this morning. Smith and Brown refused to pro&ecute Downes on the charge of assault to murder, saving that the three ot mem were friends, that Downes did not mean them any harm by shooting at them five times. The charge was changed to disturbing the peace to which Downes pleaded guilty and a .?,?f 5 and costs- aggregating Jli.oii, was assessed. The laying of uald track and all switches or turnouts shall conform in all cases, where the grade of any of said streets has been established, to said grade, -and In all other cases as near to the natural grade of said streets as practicable, and when at any time any part df the route shall he graded or tho grade thereof changed-or altered by the City Coun cil, the bed of the road, and the tracks thereof shall be made to con form therewith. Section 4. That the City of Blsbee reserves the right to grade, sewer, pave, mac adamize or otherwise improve, alter or repair the said road and streets; such work to be done so as to inter fere as little as possible- with the op eration and maintenance of said "rail way and 1(8 appurtenances. Section 5. That the franchise shall Include the right to erect and maintain all trolley poles, feeder poles, trolley feeders and all other -wires for purposes sole ly connected with the operation of said street railway, such as power, light, heat and telephonic or other signals. Said franchise shall grant the railway company the right to con nect such transmission and feeder system with that ST any other system of electric power distribution forvthe pnrposo of obtaining power for the operation of said railway, v Section 6. The fare to be charged on the Tall way lines within the1 corporate limits of the City of BIsbee shall not exceed five cents per person for one contin uous trip Ini one general direction, ex cept when cars are chartered hy pri vate parties, and should it be neces sary for passengers to change cars to continue tneir trip in one general direction the railway shall issue a transfer ticket good for such contin uous trip without an additional fare. The Com pany agrees to replace with the fund created by the depreciation charge all equipment in any way rendered In efficient either by use or bv bocnmlntr obsolete. All pejnaaal injury or other cialms arising from the (operation of the railway and said by the Comnanv shall bo considered as operating ex pense. 1 The Company agrees to furaish tha City with full and verified report on the first day of April ot the operation of the railway within the corporate limits of tho city for the year preced ing me ilrst of January of the year in which such report is -made and to accompany such report with payment of twenty per cent (20) of net earn ings as before provided for, and the City shall have the right to examine books of the Company for the pre ceding year covering such operation. Section 9, The Company shall cause said rail way to be erected within the time hereinbefore provided; and the failure of said Company to compote the said road within the time herein provided shall also work a forfeiture of the franchise hereby granted. Provided, however, that in case the City shall fail to provido a right of way over the necessary portion of the Subway, and up Tombstone Canyon eg herein before specified then the forfeiture herein provided shall have no ioce and effect. Section 10. Tho Company will equip all cars with efficient and serviceable fender devices, head lights and sand boxes.
