NEW YORK, Aug. 15. There wa3 a
rattling good wheat trade today. First
action in the market was a dip In price
or half a cent or more in sympathy
with a lower New York stock market.
As soon as stocks began to steady the
buvlng of wheat was of a good char

on the upturn. Near the close a house
with New York connections sold quite
a lot of wheat, apd as the shorts were

Today's market witnessed more
liquidation and at times sold still low
er prices than have ever before. At
tho close the market rallied consider
able, very Hkfcly due to short covering
for traders do not care to hold stocks
over night, especially on the markets
that we have had the last week. The
local market Is lifeless, and unless we I
havo better service Its hard to tell
wheta It will go to. The present price
of stocks look very tempting and
there Is no question that many are
purchases, while others can still de
cline several points and then be
plenty high enough.

New Yorkwas excited and f jverlsh on the opening and further break was seen. Supporting orders and
covering of shorts steadied the market and on Investment buying late In tho session a good rally occurred.
The close was near the best of ih-a day tmd indications pointed to further Improvement tomorrow. We fa
vor purchases for a turn at least on all reactions.
Boston coppers were sacrificed at tho opening and a panic was averted by tho big interests entering
supporting orders. The low prk s made at the opening aro new low points for a great many of theactive
coppers and certainly look like bargain prices. London copper was off two pounds, and metal quotations
were reduced 1-2 cent In both bid and asked prices. A turn for the bettter Is long overdue and may come
at any moment. Forced liquidation short selling and general market depression have beeen the chief factors
in the big slump and market shoull bo In a good way to regain some of the recent declines. We would buy
them around present prices, if on'y for a turn. C. & A. held fairly well and will advance quickly on any
renewed buying. S. & '-'. suffered at tho opening, but regained Its loss before the close. Grecne-Cananea
was a target for the traders, and sold at $11, recovering quickly to $12. Material lower prices for this stock
sre not expected and bargln hunters will do well by taking on some.
Local curbs continued dull and neglect-ed. with prices practically unchanged. Regardless of fact that
interest seems to be lacking in them, we think 'it only a question af activity before something will; be dolne
and continue to advise purchases around present prices'. DUEY & OVERLOCK.
