t
PHOENIX, Nov 15. Under a- bond
and option, a Baltlmoro cyndlcate his
taken over tho Leviathan Gold jM. ta
ins and Milling company's projertjy,
in the Wcaxer district, fifteen fnlles
northeast of Congress. DeveTapme'n.
work is to bo inaugurated at once or.
an extensive scale, and ultimately I a
thousand-ton plant will be erected on
tho -group: The members ot tho syn
dicate and their engineers will ar
nxe in Phoenix within a fcrw days
and go out to the property with W. U.
Twlchell, xvho engineered the deal.
Most ot the LeviSthan company's
stockholders are Phoenicians. Anions
the number are A. I Galpin. A. G.
Hulett and Gtcrgo GoIzeJI
Mr. TwUchell is convinced that tho
Leviathan is one of the bwtjest loxv
grade propositions in tho staTc;-.,!-though
it was discoxcred anumber of -years
ago and has surface) indications
of a most remarkable kiud, It is com
paratively unknowjt. In years sono
by it was known as tho "Mack Mil
lion." For twelve jears work has been
go.ng on in a desultory way. Alto
gether about 100O. feet ot work has
been dono. It consists ot shafts,
drifts, tunnels and cross-cuts.
There is ono promising x-eln abotu
sex-en feet wide, carrying values
ranging from $3 to $10 a ton. The
main ore body, howexer, is 1400 feet
wide and three-quarters of a mile long
There is ox ery reason to believe (bat
it is one of the biggest deposits ot
low grade ore in the world. It Is
granite, altered by thermal action to
quartz.
A 190-foot shaft has been sunk ou
this deposit, and the shaft is all In
ore. Tho values grow better from
collar to bottom.
The plan was to sink to the 200
foot lex el and cross-cut tho entire
ore body from that point, but funds
ran loxv and xx'ork was suspended.
The nexx interests Intend both to drill
and sink on the big: ledge. A churn
drill xx 111 be installed immediately.
As soon as it has proved beyond A
doubt that tho ore body has depth
and is no mere surface deposit, a
thousand ton concentrating and cy
anldlng plant will bo crocted. Thero
aru liftcen claims in the twd groUpn
belonging to the Leviathan company
and ill are to be thoroughly ex
ploited It Is staled that tha Lexlathan
gixes much more promise of being a
big goi producer than was given by
either the Congress or the Octave,
which are in that section. Neither
produced a dollar's worth ot ore un
til it bad been developed to a depth
of oxer 400 feet
