STOCKS AND BONDS j
NEW YORK, Oct. 13. Railroad
and industrial stocks moved in oppo
site directions again today, transpor

riety, denoting further accumulation,
while industrials and associated spe
cialties were variable or hesitant. .
There were a few striking excep
tions, as in the case of Lackawanna
Steel, which strengthened on its ex
cellent statement of earnings and sev
eral of the equipments and oils.
Sentiment among professional trad
ers was once more governed by the
money market. Call loans opened, at
8 per cent, advanced to 9 at midday
and mounted to 10 just before the
This sensitive condition was aitnu
uted mainly to the withdrawal of $8,
000,000 of government deposits and fi
nal preparations for Friday's payment
of the Anglo-French loan of $500,000,-
Coppers yielded again on reports
that the refined metal is being of
fered for immediate delivery at 16
cents and advices from Pittsburgh and
other steel centers confirmed recent
advances of concessions for .fabricated
iron and steel. In shipping circles
freight rates were said to be in pro
cess of downward revision. Sales
amounted to 525,000 shares,

cluding United States Steel fives were
heavy but other domestic issues, in
